Explore space...take a walk on the lunar surface...or meet other-worldcreatures face-to-face with Robotix!¨ Robotix is the space age constructionsystem that combines out-of-this world fun with the challenge of building. Eachset includes an assortment of components and ideas for creating many differentmodels. Motors can be connected to jaws, wheels, arms, and more to bring yourgalactic inventions to life. Kids age 7 plus, adults, the entire family, or your class in schoolgroup or organization will enjoy the thrill of building. Remember, your only limitation is your very own imagination!
Learning Curve Toys has joined forces with the NASA Robotics Engineering Consortium and SIMLAB virtual reality experts at Carnegie Mellon University in development of the first interactive virtual reality cinema production entitled "Robotix Mars Mission". Robotix vehicles will play the lead role in this production, as the audience takes a journey to the Mars surface, and controls the action of their Robotixspace vehicle through hand-held controlers. This show was first at the Carnegie Science Center in Pittsburgh as part of a major robotics exhibit that kicked off at the end of September 1996 through the end of 2001, and is available to other science centers.
Robotix and the NASA connection has be featured in a one half hour PBS special as part of the Newton's Apple television series. The show will air 3 times per season, over multiple seasons with additional exposure planned from inclusion in a Newton's Apple CD-ROM series, as well as through an extensive outreach program to schools. A video format of the show and lesson plan will be developed by Newton's Apple and distributed to over 55,000 schools reaching approximately 5 million students.
Robotix had been incorporated into the Carnegie Science Center School Outreach program which was directed to a majority of the schools throughout the Northeast and Middle Atlantic states. This program will include a Robotix school curriculum developed in conjunction with the Carnegie Science Center along with a Robotix Educational Lab developed specifically for school outreach, available to teachers who participate in Robotix workshops. The Robotix Outreach program will be rolled out nationally, giving children a hands-on opportunity to experience Robotix and learn about robotics engineering in classrooms as they build, control and learn to program their own robots.
The Carnegie Science Center in Pittsburgh previously launched a major Robotics exhibit. This exhibit included state-of-the-art robotics technology including NASA's Dante and Lunar Rover along with 35 other robotics attractions including Robotix toys. Robotix will be featured in a hands-on building area where thousands of children and families will build their own robots. Mr. Robot will also be appearing in this exhibit. Robotix received rave reviews in the hands-on building area from children and staff members alike. This exhibit will tour the US to other major science centers.
During the Robotics Exhibit, the Carnegie Science Center previously hosted the Association of Science and Technology Centers Conference, Pittsburgh. Approximately 2000 science directors and museum store buyers from around the world attended this expo and toured the CSC robotics exhibit as a key event during the expo.
A major national public relations campaign will spread the word to consumers about the exciting events noted above. Press releases and video footage will go out to all the major news media throughout the country generating major media coverage--both printed and electronic.
